What a Difference a Year Makes

Hello my Darlings,
I hope you're all in the throws of excitement for tonight's New Year festivities!

As is custom for many bloggers, I thought I'd do a small refection post for you all, looking back what  2011 meant to me, and my hopes for 2012.

And let me just start by saying that, if anyone had told me this time last year what 2011 had in store for me, I would never have believed them. Not in a million years!

2012 was a year of change for me. Big change.  I had been dabbling in a few things, such as writing and journalism, and trying some things out. You know when you're at that weird stage where you dont know which direction your life is going in? Well, that's pretty much where I was at.

I was coming to understand that my biggest passion and strength lay in engaging and communicating with people. The only thing was,  I didn't really know how I would go about furthering my interest in that. Would it be through writing, broadcasting, or other means? I just wasn't sure.

Thats how this little blog of mine came about you see, as a means of communicating with people. I wanted put something of myself out, and see what came back. WildChild Stories is still less than a year old, and yet in less than a year it has done more for me than I could have ever hoped, including connecting me with some truly wonderful and talented bloggers here in Ireland, and the world over.
I love this little blog of mine so dearly, and I seriously cannot get enough of you all, fellow bloggers and readers alike.

Despite all this amazing change, I will always look back on 2011 as they year of that competition, yes, the Pretty Polly one, If you want the full story you can check it out here

I had been previously dabbling modeling, mostly with creatively-minded friends, I really had no hopes to do anything serious with it, nor did I put much though into in when I submitted my photo into a big modeling competition on Facebook. Being brought over to London and winning a competition of that scale launched me into the media, an experience that nothing could have prepared me for.  Becoming an ambassador for a brand like Pretty Polly has changed the course of my life, its opened up so many new doors and opportunities for me, and I am eternally grateful to everyone who supported and voted for me.

Overall, 2011 was a year that I will never forget. It defied my expectations, my wildest dreams even. I am so happy and grateful to all the good that has come my way, and although I'll always remain the same girl I once was, I have a newfound confidence and appetite for life, and all it has to offer. This year I have learned that life's opportunities are limitless, and in order to make the best out of it, you have to put yourself out there. Sometimes things work out, and sometimes they don't, but without trying,
you'll never know.

Looking ahead at 2012, I can barely contain my excitement. This past year has been one where amazing things have happened to me, but this year will be the year that I make amazing things happen. I plan to work my butt off, stay focused, and above all enjoy myself, because otherwise, what's the point?

I have so many ideas and projects that I cant wait to share with you all, and I cant wait to hear about what you are all getting up to. If there's one thing I'd like to change or improve about WildChild Stories this year, it will be to engage with you all more. But don't worry, I'm working on it.

Finally I'd just like to say a huge "Thank you" to you all. For reading, for commenting, for supporting, and for making all this worthwhile. I only hope I can keep you coming back again and again.

Happy New Year my Darlings,
2012 will be a good year for us all,
 of that I'm sure.

Ciao,
Ciara

"Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Galway Christmas Market, Eyre Square.

These beautiful images were taken by my very talented friend Saibh on our trip to the Galway Christmas Market! For the second year running, Eyre Square has been converted into a magical, whimsical, Christmas wonderland! For the month of December, both local and international sellers flock to the market, to showcase their wares and cuisine. Having enjoyed it so much last year, I was delighted to hear of it coming back. Its hard not to get excited for Christmas when surrounded by the smells of delicious mulled wine and roast pig, I recommend going on an empty stomach as you will surely be full to the brim leaving! There is a wonderful selection of Christmas-themed stalls, where you can get handmade christmas presents, jumpers, or even a gorgeous reindeer pelt all the way from Finland.

COAT: PRIMARK
DRESS: AX PARIS
TIGHTS: PRETTY POLLY
SHOES: TOPSHOP

This outfit really gets me in the Christmas mood! My extra fleecy Pretty Polly tights keep my legs nice and snug, and my faux-fur collared Primark dress-coat was an absolute bargain I picked up last year, a shocking €5, and it keeps me toasty as ever.
Believe it or not, this is the first ever red dress to grace my wardrobe, from AXParis. I love its shape and fit, cinching in perfectly at the waist. Its style is quite versatile, smart enough for daywear, but team with bare legs and a clutch, it could make a formidable party dress!

And speaking of all things red, let me introduce you another "first" in my life... my first ever MAC lipstick. A thoughtful (and very well chosen!) present from The Boy, the shade is Ruby Woo, the most perfect matte red hue, and an instant favourite in my makeup bag.

There's something about the colour red isn't there? Especially this time of the year, makes a girl feel special.... Oh look at me, Its only the 1st of December, and I'm already feeling the Christmas cheer.
So much so in fact, that a festive themed giveaway might be on the cards....

So stay tuned guys, tis the season, and all that.

((and in the spirit of giving, feel free to Hype of you fancy :D ))

Peace,
Wild Child,

Pretty Polly Legs Eleven

Hey guys!
Some exciting news for you all! I'm in the final of a really exciting competition!

So way back in March, a friend showed me this competition being held on Facebook by Pretty Polly, the popular hosiery brand we all know and love, that were searching for the next pair of legs to represent their brand for 2011. Thinking how amazing and exciting of an opportunity it could be, I entered my best leggy photo, (above) one from a retro-themed shoot I did not too long ago with a wonderful photographer and friend Ronan. The public were to vote for their favourites, and the top eleven would be invited to London for a final judging to decide the winner. If that wasn't exciting enough, one of the judges is Henry Holland! Upon seeing that the competition wasn't finishing until the end of June, I was a little disheartened, and thought that with all that time and the hundreds of girls that would undoubtedly want to enter, surely I would never make it to the top eleven with these humble pins of mine!
Months passed, and I had little hope, thats is until, I checked up on it the night before the competition closed, only to find I was in 43rd place! OH THE EXCITEMENT! I asked for my friends on Facebook to kindly show me some support in the final hours, hoping that with a bit of luck I could make it into the Top Eleven. I was overwhelmed at the response my plea got, and the votes started tumbling in, and when the competition finally closed, I was in 7th place!!!!
REJOICE!

This means that I am invited, along with the other Top Eleven gals (and one guy :P) to the Final Judging in London in August! Now I've started thinking about the competition, because having come this far, I have to be confident in myself, and that I have a shot at winning it. Why you ask? Because (and I apologise for shamelessly selling myself here) I think I could be just what Pretty Polly are looking for, I've got my own style and am not afraid to express it, through this my little blog that I love so much. My experience with journalism allows me to understand how the media world works, and how to effectively promote a brand or product... and hey, the modeling experience couldn't hurt right? Im not a professional model or anything, but It means I will be confident and comfortable in front of a camera, and able to hold my own, even amidst the possible madness of a Pretty Polly photoshoot!

I know all this sounds terribly corny, obnoxious even...and that's not my intention. If you want to achieve something, anything, that you have to 100% believe in yourself, or what's the point?! You have to convince yourself that you're the only person for the job, that you can do it better than anyone else, and fellas, that what I'm gonna try to do!

Now I just need to make a certain Mr Holland & co. believe it too :)

I am so grateful to everyone who gave the time to vote, and I thank you all for your support, much love guys, and if I do win, there shall be a pair of Pretty Polly's in it for you all, not to worry! <3

Also cannot wait to meet all the other finalists, it should be quite the adventure!

and here's a nice little video about the competition if you want to take a peek!

and check out the rest of the finalists here, on the Pretty Polly website,
definitely some nice legs in that bunch!
:)

Peace,
Wide Eyed Fire Child,
