The new Miss and Mister Ticino 2011 are Cody Fischer, 19, and Jonathan Bassi, 20. They won their coveted titles last night during a glittering, co-ed gala in Locarno. Beauty School geography students will know that Ticino is in southern Switzerland and is the country's only canton where Italian is the sole official language. Together with areas of the canton of Graubunden, it makes up the "Italian Switzerland." Viva Svizzera!

The new Miss Switzerland 2011 is Alina Buchschacher. She won the highly-coveted title tonite during a glittering, televised gala held at the Centro Esposizioni in Lugano. Alina has Caribbean roots - her mother was born in Trinidad and Tobago. First runner-up was Julie Fluckiger and second runner-up was Ashley Balmer. The emcees were Matteo Pelli, a noted TV host, and Xenia Tchoumitcheva, Miss Switzerland 2006 first runner-up. The jury included two former Miss Switzerland titleholders, Miss Switzerland 1997 Tanja Gutmann and Miss Switzerland 2008 Whitney Toyloy.

The 12 finalists for the Miss Switzerland 2011 contest have been announced!

MISS AND MISTER VAUD FRIBOURG 2011

The new Miss and Mister Vaud Fribourg 2011 are Vera Marozava, 17 and 1m77, and Mike De Groote, 23 and 1m86. They were elected last night during a glittering ceremony at the Casino Barriere in Montreaux, Switzerland. They succeed last year's winners Sabrina Tawfik and Nicolas Scandamarre. In this year's contest, 10 women and 11 men competed for the coveted titles.The new Miss Vaud Fribourg 2011 will move on to compete in Miss Earth Switzerland 2012; the new Mister Vaud Friboug 2011 will move on to compete in Mister Switzerland 2012.

MISS EARTH SWITZERLAND 2011

Switzerland saw two pageants this weekend! In addition to Miss and Mister Vaud Fribourg 2011, Miss Earth Switzerland 2011 was held. The new Miss Earth Switzerland 2011 titleholder is Irina de Giorgi. Runners-up in the contest were Melika Sghiar, Miss Fire; Angelina Rau, Miss Air; and Selina Weber, Miss Water. The gala competition was held last night in Zurich.

MISS AND MISTER SUISSE ROMANDE 2011

Elected last night were the new Miss and Mister Suisse Romande 2011. They are Aline Bacher, 22, and Raphaël Millius, 25. The glittering gala was held in Montreux, at the Stravinski Auditorium in front of a live audience of 1,200. Runners-up for the Miss Suisse Romande 2011 title were Ellen Batelaan, 19, and Sarah Stuckelberger, 23. Mister Suisse Romande 2011 runners-up were Filipe Pires, 23, and Brian Meylan, 19.

MISS BERN 2011

In a busy pageant weekend worldwide, from Brazil to Trinidad and Tobago and from Spain to Switzerland, Miss Bern 2011 was elected. She is Alina Buchschacher, 21. Runners-up in the competition were Rahel Anyass and Nicole Beringer.

The first candidate to qualify for the Miss Switzerland 2012 title is Cleo Heuss, 18. She won the Miss Zurich 2011 title last night. First runner-up was Jennifer Arman; second runner-up was Samira Wirth. 12 women competed for the title.
